Posted @withregram • @bestbookonacting • @thestylesreport R.I.P. to Sidney Poitier: legend, pioneer, and trailblazer. This is one of my favorite performances of his, in one of my favorite plays, Raisin In The Sun. In this scene, as his family proudly looks on, Poitier’s Walter Lee illustrates that his pride and dignity cannot be bought. He overcomes temptation and remains a portrait of unconquered strength for his family, even as society conspires to “defer his dreams”, to quote the Langston Hughes poem from which Lorraine Hansberry’s play drew its inspiration and title. Sidney plays the role masterfully, and I truly can’t do his talent justice in 30 seconds.Thank you sir for an amazing body of work and contribution to arts and humanities. We call him MISTER Poitier. #saluteandrespect@thestylesreport #thestylesreport #stylesreport #grownfolks #urbanthrowback #sidneypoitier #ripsidneypoitier #raisininthesun #araisininthesun #theycallhimmrtibbs #oldschoolcool #walterleeyounger #liliesofthefield #thedefiantones #intheheatofthenight #uptownsaturdaynight #letsdoitagain #apieceoftheaction
